Dear Local 299 Member,

You and I have traveled a long way since 2001.

I will leave your service on November 15, 2007 when a new administration for Local 299 will be installed and seated as your new Union Leaders.

Civil Service is growing here at Local 299 with the Activity Therapist filing date set for February 7, 2007 and Recreation Supervisor test filing scheduled for February 7, 2007.

ALL ACTIVITY THERAPISTS, NOT NOW PERMANENT, MUST TAKE AND PASS THE ACTIVITY THERAPIST EXAM.

ALL PERMANENT RECREATION DIRECTORS SHOULD TAKE THE RECREATION SUPERVISOR EXAM.

Local 299 has also won a lawsuit that directs the Department of Parks & Recreation to remove provisional Recreation Directors and to replace them from the current Civil Service List.

Each step taken by a Local member to advance their Civil Service career is a fulfillment of the most basic goal of this institution.

The gains made over the years such as your Civil Service status and the vigorous defense of members can be lost more quickly than it was gained.

The meeting schedule for 2007 is as follows: January 24, May 16, September 19 and November 15, 2007.

January 24 is the meeting to decide on a delegation to the Black and Hispanic Caucus and the budget for 2007.

At the May meeting, we will celebrate Scholarships awarded to the children of Local 299 Members.

At the General Membership Meeting on September 19, nominations will be made for all Local 299 Officers and AAA will conduct the election by mail. If no runoff election is needed, the new officers will be installed on November 15, 2007. Each member has a great stake in, and will live with, these results.
